JOB

Childcare Associate I have had many jobs in my life. Since I started college, I marketed for an entertainment company in Shanghai, investigated financial crimes for a bank, and consulted for an accounting firm. However, my favorite job was working as a childcare associate for The Bay Club while I was in high school. For those of you that don’t know, The Bay Club is an expensive gym on the west coast whose clients have included Kim Kardashian and North West. I took a job there for extra cash and a free gym membership. In the following paragraphs, I will answer these questions: ·       What were my responsibilities? ·       Why was this job my favorite? ·       What lessons have I learned from working in childcare? What were my responsibilities? Being my first job, I went in with no experience and my responsibilities were limited and required minimum skill. Nevertheless, they carried...

Reading Post 1

I will be reading "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming" by Mike Brown for this assignment. I chose this book because I have limited experience reading books about science and astronomy, and this seemed like an interesting choice. I remember hearing about the "murder" of Pluto when I was young, but I did not think much of it at the time. Truthfully, I found it rather unnecessary, as I do all arbitrary redefining of words. At the end of the chapter, Brown reflects on how he had known what a planet was his whole life, and now he is suddenly unsure. So far, this book seems like a promising read. It is written in Plain English, and is n...

Who you are matters

I am from San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley. Growing up, being cool meant having good grades, creating a startup, and winning the Intel Science Competition. I don't know where I am going, but I do know I would love to live in New York City for a while. I would also love the opportunity to live in Paris again (I studied abroad there last spring). I plan to get those places by securing jobs in those cities or applying for transfers. More immediately, I will be in San Francisco after graduation working for Deloitte. I am like my parents in many ways. I have my father's temper, stubbornness, and intelligence. I have my mother's carelessness and strong sense of inertia. Because of how they raised me, I have grown to become logical, practical, and willful. However, since I was raised in a different country I have a lot of different ideological beliefs. I believe in freedom and the power of the individual, and my parents believe in familial piety and duty to your community. ...
